Bev was about to enter the wildwood when Terry and Alphonse returned into the backyard. Hands on her guns, she smirked. “Get him?”

Terry’s face oozed venom at her. “No, but we’re going back. It’s impossible out there. I gotta get my bearings again. I’ll get it done, no problem in the world.”

Bubba stayed behind Simon and backed up more toward the porch. “Them fuckers runnin’ the fuck out there are fuckin’ stupid. Yeah Terry, fuck you, I’m talkin’ to fuckin’ you. Idiot.” He looked up at the porch and could barely see DeVore between her two guards. “And you, fuckin’ too, crazy fuckin’ woman. Do a little fuckin’ dance, ma’am and fuckin’ tell me these dipshits fuckin’ are gonna be any fuckin’ better than these two fuckin’ pricks.” Bubba waved at the bodies of Paulie and Sal.

DeVore shook her head and turned around. Her guards slinked back into the house with her, quickly replaced by Bev who walked up the steps past him and dominated the doorframe. She said not a word, but Bubba heard Bishop say, “They cannot be far. Fan out and find them.”

Maxwell glanced at his men in the yard and said, “Fan out to the north, Andrew. Simon, to the south, never mind what I wished about guarding the front of this house. We’ll gamble for a while that we are free here. The three that ran in have the east covered. “I’m going to head down the road a little and see if there’s a way to follow on down contrary to the route they are taking. We can’t stay here with our asses hanging out forever, though.”

Bubba laughed as three all departed. “Fuck me runnin’ man. Yer outta yer fuckin’ minds.”

They heard two shots in the distance, and all jumped a little.

Doc held a snub nosed automatic to his cheek. “That’s Carmine’s gun. For real it was, I know the reports of that caliber.”

Bubba sighed. “Ya want fuckin’ cookies? Fuck off.”

Alphonse stood beside Sal’s body. “Carmine got him. I bet you he did.”

Terry shouted out to Cracker in the distance, calling on him over and over. Bubba laughed at him. “That’s fuckin’ outstanding! Why not fuckin’ invite the old fuckin’ sonofabitch to fuckin’ come fuckin’ kill us, ya twat fuck?”

The muscle-bound man swung around, seething with anger. “You got a better suggestion?”

Bubba shrugged. “Fuck yeah I do. We fuckin’ get the fuck outta here. We fuckin’ haul out Miller’s fuckin’ body along with the fuckin’ rest and call it a fuckin’ day. Once the fuckin’ folks who live here get fuckin’ back from the fuckin’ birth of whoever the fuck’s kid, let fuckin’ them figure it the fuck out.”

In a gravelly voice, Bev said, “Stuart will pop out of the wildwood and tell the story to the authorities. We could be compromised if we stay any longer. There’s a chance they will hunt us down.”

Bishop insisted. “No. There are but two lawmen in this area. We have time still. Search on for him. I’m paying you to find him.
